YUFE Connects: Dr Michał Kwiatkowski’s Research Fellowship at the University of Rijeka

From 7 May to 4 June 2026, Dr Michał Kwiatkowski from the Department of Urban Studies and Sustainable Development at Nicolaus Copernicus University completed a research fellowship at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Rijeka (UNIRI). The mobility was carried out within the project YUFE CONNECTS – The European Platform for Academic Cooperation at Nicolaus Copernicus University, funded by the European Social Fund Plus (FERS 2021–2027).

During his stay, Dr Kwiatkowski conducted research within the project Bicycle Infrastructure Planning in the Context of Local and Regional Development. The research focused on the potential for developing new forms of sustainable mobility, particularly electric bicycles, in urban environments characterised by a high share of car traffic. Special attention was devoted to the role of cycling infrastructure in supporting local and regional development processes.

The research stay provided an opportunity to establish cooperation within the YUFE network, prepare a joint research initiative with colleagues from the University of Rijeka, and engage in academic discussions with students. The visit also contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to sustainable mobility and urban development.

Professor Zoran Ježić served as the academic host and supervisor of the fellowship at the University of Rijeka.
