Lenka Demková
Lenka Demková is an associate professor at the Department of Ecology, Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences, University of Presov, Slovakia. Since 2024, she has served as the Head of the Department of Ecology and acts as the Faculty Erasmus+ Coordinator.
Her academic and research activities focus on environmental loads, air, soil, and water pollution, and the occurrence and behavior of hazardous substances in the natural environment. A central theme of her work is the impact of risk and potentially toxic elements on biological and chemical soil parameters, complemented by research on biomonitoring as a tool for environmental assessment.
She obtained her PhD degree in 2014 at the University of Presov. Her doctoral dissertation, Landscape-ecological analysis and evaluation of trends in the development of landscape structure and selected environmental components in the area of central Spiš, addressed long-term changes in landscape structure and environmental quality. In 2022, she completed her habilitation at the same university, with a thesis focused on the assessment of the impact of potentially toxic elements on selected environmental components.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses in Environmental Chemistry, Geoecology, Physical Geography, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Mathematics, and Statistics for Ecologists, combining natural science foundations with applied analytical and spatial methods.
She is the author or co-author of more than 130 scientific publications, including two monographs and two university textbooks. Her project experience includes roles as principal investigator in two scientific projects and research team member in eight additional national and international projects, addressing interdisciplinary issues at the interface of ecology, geochemistry, and environmental risk assessment.
