Instructions for Candidates – YUFE Students’ Summer Odyssey 2026

1. Recruitment timeline

  • 1–10 December 2025 – application period
  • 20 December 2025 – announcement of recruitment results

2. How to apply? – Recruitment procedure

To participate in the recruitment process, candidates must:

  1. Fill in the application form available at:

    (details listed in section 3)

An application is considered valid only if both steps are completed.


3. Required documents (to be submitted by email)

Candidates must prepare and send:

a) Academic Curriculum Vitae (up to 2 A4 pages)

Indicating up to three most significant academic achievements, such as:

  • scientific publications,
  • conference presentations,
  • participation in research projects,
  • academic awards and distinctions,
  • other documented forms of scholarly activity.

b) Motivation letter (1 A4 page)

Specifying:

  • the connection between participation in the Summer School and the topic of the candidate’s bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral thesis,
  • the expected impact of the Summer School on the candidate’s future academic plans.

c) Brief letter of recommendation

Written by the candidate’s academic supervisor.

d) Certificate confirming student or doctoral candidate status

Issued by the candidate’s home university.


4. Obligations of admitted candidates

Candidates accepted to the programme must:

Complete the Participant’s Declaration

(confirming physical participation in the Summer School and that the data provided in the application form have not changed)

5. Signing the agreement

Admitted participants will receive two PDF copies of the agreement (see “Scholarship agreement template”).
Participants should:

  1. Print and sign both copies by hand,
    or
  2. Sign them using a qualified electronic signature, if available.
  3. The signed documents should be sent in two copies to the following address:
    Mgr Alicja Bartoszewska, Lwowska 1, Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management, 87-100 Toruń, Poland.

Signing the agreement constitutes acceptance of the programme regulations.


6. Payment of funds

Participants will receive the funds to their bank account within four weeks after the signed agreement has been received by the Organizer.


We invite YUFE students to join the unique two-week international summer school – the “YUFE Students’ Summer Odyssey”, organized by Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. The program will be conducted entirely in English and combines theoretical lectures with hands-on urban fieldwork.


📌 Structure & Locations:

  • Week 1: Toruń – NCU Institute of Psychology
    Theoretical foundations in social and environmental psychology.
    Group building, communication skill development, and academic integration.
  • Week 2: Chełmno – urban research lab
    Field workshops and applied environmental research in a real urban setting.
    Bridging theory and practice through hands-on field experience

🎯 Objectives & Topics:

The program focuses on exposing students to both classical and contemporary theories and research findings in:

  • Place attachment and collective memory
  • Social environmental psychology
  • Advanced social psychology
  • Intergroup relations and urban diversity
  • Prejudice and attitudes toward “otherness”

Courses will be taught by experienced NCU faculty members, with contributions from two renowned international scholars in the field of social psychology.


🌍 Cultural Program:
Participants will enjoy a two-day cultural trip to Malbork and Gdańsk, exploring Poland’s historical and cultural heritage.


💼 Student Support Package:

All participants will receive:

  • Full participation in a two-week academic program (theory + fieldwork)
  • Cultural excursion (2 days)
  • Financial support including:
    • Accommodation and daily meals
    • Travel expenses
    • Health insurance (covering the off-campus program)
