YUFE Connects: Prof. Dariusz Brzostek’s Research Fellowship at Sorbonne Nouvelle University
From 31 January to 1 March 2026, Professor Dariusz Brzostek from the Institute of Cultural Studies at Nicolaus Copernicus University completed a research fellowship at Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris under the NAWA YUFE Connects project. The fellowship was hosted by Professor Aliya Morgenstern, Vice-President for European Affairs.
During his stay, Professor Brzostek carried out the research project "Towards an Anthropology of Modernization: Technology, Art, Communication", which explores the modernising potential of technological change, particularly in the fields of audio and audiovisual media, including documentary practices, private multimedia archives, amateur artistic activities involving sound and image, and social activism. The project also examines how these developments shape new relationships between humans and the environment through acoustic ecology, cultural identity through documentation and archiving, and anthropological methods such as field recording.
The fellowship enabled Professor Brzostek to establish research cooperation with scholars from the Department of General and Comparative Literature (LGC), the Faculty of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Foreign Societies (LLCSE), the Faculty of Arts & Media, as well as with emerging research networks within the YUFE Alliance.
As part of the fellowship, he also conducted archival research, field recordings, and ethnographic observations at leading Parisian cultural institutions, including Palais de Tokyo, Musée de l'Homme, Musée du Quai Branly, Fondation Cartier, and Halle Saint Pierre, providing valuable material for future research and international scientific collaboration.
